Lunar Cycle Due Date Estimator
Did You Know?
You can estimate your due date using the moon’s cycle! Traditionally, before modern calendars and technology, people calculated due dates by tracking the moon phases. A typical pregnancy lasts about 10 lunar months (or 280 days, roughly 40 weeks).
How Does It Work?
- Identify the Moon Phase: Note the moon phase (e.g., New Moon, First Quarter, Full Moon, Last Quarter) on the first day of your last menstrual period (LMP).
- Add 10 Lunar Months: Count 10 cycles of the same moon phase from your LMP.
For example:
- If your LMP starts on a Full Moon, your baby is likely due around the 10th Full Moon after that.
Example Table: Moon Due Date Calculator
LMP Moon Phase | First Day of Last Period (LMP) | Estimated Due Date (10 Moons Later) |
---|---|---|
New Moon | January 21, 2024 | November 15, 2024 |
First Quarter | February 1, 2024 | November 23, 2024 |
Full Moon | February 9, 2024 | December 15, 2024 |
Last Quarter | February 16, 2024 | December 22, 2024 |
Alternative: Fundal Height Measurement
Without ultrasound, fundal height (the distance from the pubic bone to the top of the uterus in centimeters) can also provide a reliable estimate of gestational age. Typically:
- After 20 weeks, the fundal height in centimeters roughly matches the number of weeks of pregnancy. For example:
- 25 cm = 25 weeks pregnant (give or take 2 weeks).
Though the Lunar Cycle Due Date Estimator and fundal height methods offer fascinating and traditional ways to estimate due dates, can be less precise than modern tools. However, they beautifully connect us to natural cycles and ancestral wisdom. 🌙
